OEM Mopar Control Arms
Your front suspension has several parts, but its control arms (also called "A arms") are some of the most important. Many models have two. However, some have four, namely, two lower and two upper control arms. They connect the frame or body of a vehicle to its wheel assembly or steering knuckle. The outer end of a control arm attaches via a ball joint. It's sometimes fastened permanently, but it can also be pressed on or bolted in. This lets you change the joint if you ever must. Rubber bushings, however, enable an arm to swing vertically. That makes going over potholes and bumps easier. What do control arms themselves do, though? Put simply, they keep your wheels on the road. Unfortunately, sooner or later, they can get damaged or wear out. When they do, they can bend (if they don't break), and that will make any vehicle unsafe to drive.
How Do You Tell When a Control Arm Goes Bad?
Thankfully, it's easy. Look for brake drift over rough terrain. Listen for pops or clunks and feel for loss of some control during driving. These symptoms indicate one of two issues: ball joint wear or torn bushings. Both can lead to complete detachment of your wheels from your suspension. To make sure none of this happens, put your vehicle on a hoist and run a complete inspection. Do this at least once yearly. If you need to replace a control arm, be sure you buy genuine Mopar. Their compatibility with your model, your OEM guarantees. So, avoid aftermarket parts -- order what you need online from our auto parts store today!
