OEM Mopar Exhaust Parts

When engines burn fuel for power, they create toxic byproducts. Exhaust systems safely remove them. More specifically, an exhaust captures what's harmful before releasing much cleaner gases into the atmosphere. That not only protects you and your passengers; it's also a lot better for the environment. Exhausts even help muffle the noise the process creates.

That process is as follows. First, contaminants go through the catalytic converter. Platinum, rhodium, and palladium capture the toxic molecules as they travel, containing them. Then, the molecules are split into oxygen and nitrogen; the nitrogen gets trapped while the oxygen is allowed through. Hydrocarbons are burned up in the process, along with carbon monoxide. What results is essentially water vapor and carbon dioxide.

Secondly, the exhaust manifold collects the gases. It sends them down the exhaust pipe, while the resonator and muffler help make sure air flows as well as it can, cutting engine noise in the process. The muffler's tailpipe then expels cleaner fumes into the air.

Signs of a Bad or Failing Exhaust

Unfortunately, no car exhaust lasts indefinitely. If yours is going bad or has failed, though, you're in luck: there are signs that'll tell you. They include worsening fuel economy, unusual noises coming from the exhaust pipe and muffler, the odor of rotten eggs, and a lit Check Engine light. If you're experiencing any such symptoms, do a careful inspection to figure out which exhaust parts may be the problem. Otherwise, typically, catalytic converters last 100,000 miles or so and mufflers and resonators last 2 to 4 years or so.
