OEM Mopar Pulleys
What pulleys does a vehicle have? In yours, for instance, there are two main kinds: crank pulleys and accessory pulleys. Most of them are driven by a main crank pulley, which is bolted onto your vehicle's crankshaft. How does a car pulley work? It's not too complicated. While your engine runs, its crank pulley rotates, transferring that motion to other pulleys using your serpentine belt or V belt. Accessory pulleys, for example, help your alternator and power steering pump run. Idler and tensioner pulleys, however, are different. Idler pulleys are a combo of a cylindrical mechanism and a bearing, which, when spun, turn freely. They sometimes stand in for accessories altogether. Sometimes, they're even part of your serpentine belt system. Tensioner pulleys, which are also called drive belt tensioners, work similarly, but they also use spring-loaded parts to help keep proper belt tension.
What are the Signs a Vehicle Has Bad Pulleys?
Symptoms differ for each type of pulley. Signs of a bad crank pulley range from a vibrating engine and alternator failure to power steering pump failure, a damaged transmission, and abnormal engine idling speed. Signs of a bad idler pulley range from visible wear and squealing to a damaged bearing and pulley damage itself. Signs of a bad drive belt tensioner range from grinding and squeaking to abnormal belt wear and belt-driven accessory failure. If you need to replace a pulley in your vehicle, be sure to buy genuine OEM. Pulleys made by Mopar are made to fit the make and model you drive. The same goes for pulley installation parts, like bolts, caps, collars, and bushings. You can order what you need online, right here at our auto parts store. Buy now!
